July 14 -Corvette Factory Tour, My Enemy, My Friend

Unfortunately no pics allowed in the factory
Peter and Zane went on an early morning Corvette Factory Tour.  No pictures allowed.
On their way back to the campsite they stopped at the nearby Aviation Heritage Park.
Edward Cherry's F-4 Phantom II
One of the planes at the park was flown by Brigadier General Edward Daniel Cherry. On April 16, 1972 Cherry was involved in a dogfight where he shot down aMig-21 over North Vietnam.  The pilot of the Mig-21 survived the crash and the war and was later the guest of honour on April 16, 2009 when Aviation Heritage Park was formally opened to the public. This story has been chronicled in Cherry’s book, ‘My Enemy, My Friend’
When Peter and Zane returned we went on the Lost Cave Tours, which is a boat tour through caves.
Jesse James was purported to have hidden in the cave after robbing a bank nearby. He then kidnapped a local Doctor as one of his gang had been shot. The doctor took care of the gunshot victim and was then set free.
It was very fun, we all had to duck, our heads in the boat to get through the first opening.
The caves were used in the 20’s as a dance club because they stayed much cooler than the hot summer surroundings.
After the caves, we did a bit of hiking and the kids dipped their feet into the waters rapids.

We all enjoyed some Dairy Queen to cool off after the hike.  Boys needed haircuts, so we stopped at a Great Clips to get their hair cut then headed home.

Showing us where to duck our heads because of 40' of rock above our boat
