Our "Anne" |
On our agenda today is to visit the Anne of Green Gables museum and farm! Our kids had never seen or read Anne of Green Gables, so we watched the first movie last night to give the kids an understanding of where we were going today.
We began with a horse drawn carriage ride through the countryside in front of the home where the author spent much of her time as a child and was also married in the front room. This museum is still owned by relatives of Lucy Maud Montgomery.
We travelled a little farther down the road to the Green Gables Heritage Place, which has the house that Lucy Maud Montgomery based her Anne of Green Gables books on. In real life, this farm was the home of David Jr. and his sister Margaret, cousins of Montgomery’s grandfather. Although she never lived at Green Gables, she came to know her cousin’s farm through her explorations of the surrounding woodlands. The home has been restored to look as it would have during Lucy Maud Montgomery’s time. Wow! We so enjoyed this journey today and Prince Edward Island is beautiful!!
