May 13 -Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

We are heading to the waters edge in Halifax, NS today.  We spent most of our day at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, where we learned about Halifax’s role in the rescue of the survivors and floating non-survivors from the Titantic.

We also learned about the Halifax Explosion, in 1917, which was the largest manmade explosion prior to nuclear weapons.  Two ships ran into each other in the harbour, one of them laden with wartime explosives. Approx 2,000 were killed and 9,000 injured.
