Feb 8 -New Orleans, French Quartours, Beignets

We are backtracking a bit in our travels. Although we are camping in Biloxi, MS we are heading 1 hour 15 minutes back to New Orleans, LA.  I know it sounds crazy, but this is what worked for RV sites for us.

I found a cool kids tour of The French Quarter in New Orleans. We were blessed to have Jill of French Quartour Kids tour us around the French Quarter.  She gave us a great historical overview of how New Orleans was settled.  We stepped back in time to learn about the dress and the diversity of the city.
Some of what we learned was that the Native Americans lived in the area until the French arrived, followed by the Spanish, then Haitians, and then Americans.  When the French first arrived, it was only French prisoners sent to come to this unknown land. Jill came prepared with maps, canes, top hats, parasols and more. She certainly made learning fun.

There were street performers and artists everywhere

This ship, called "Serenade of the Seas" is just leaving port from New Orleans. We sailed around the Hawaiian islands on this same ship in 2010.

After the tour we had lunch and wandered the streets in the French Quarter, looking in art galleries and shops.  The art galleries are amazing!
